Designed by Inventor Ed Peterson, after watching Drivers opening the heavy hoods in a snow storm at Big Cabin Tall Chief Truck Stop; slipping, sliding trying to keep their balance on the icy pavement.
The normal procedure to open the “Big Rig Truck” hoods is to reach up to the hand holds on the radiator cowling, step up and place each foot in slots in the big chrome bumper, heave backwards using body weight and upper-body strength. This task is very difficult for drivers that weigh less than 190. Many lady drivers and drivers of slight stature as well as drivers with disabilities and back problems this is next to impossible.
Add winter ice, snow, freezing rain and ten to 20 MPH wind and the accident and back strain rate will increase.
Safety was the primary concern in the designing, planning, practical research and a testing on a barrowed used semi truck. After several months, Ed finished the Peterson Power Hood.
